The stories of Cosmicomics were all very interesting. The stories seem to range in location and overall setting, not necessarily all taking place on Earth, or, if it does take place on Earth, the descriptions seem to be that of an astronomer influenced greatly by observations of space. In the 1st short story, the characters are people Earth who go out on the water in boats using poles to knock a substance that they collect and filter to become a kind of milk. In the story, the protagonist has developed an infatuation for the captain's wife, while the captain's wife is thoroughly into the protagonist's cousin. Ultimately, the protagonist thinks he wants the captain's wife, but when he chases after her onto the Moon, after spending time there, and realizing she still is only infatuated with the cousin, his desperation to be among things familiar overcomes him, and he rushes to join the crews back on Earth. So, the story seems to show how a person can believe they are into...
The story of Frankenstein is a classic novel today that has many gothic elements. However, the gothic element I would like to focus on for this writing is the monster. The monster created by Victor Frankenstein contains the characteristics of what defines a monster; large, ugly, and frightening. I will just quickly add that although the monster is often portrayed as ugly, Victor had sought to beautify it by giving it long luscious black hair, and other fine features as he could. But the monster was a monster nevertheless. The monster in Frankenstein is interesting, because it did not just go rampaging the moment it was created, it tried to communicate with him. But instead of dealing with the issue at hand, Victor was so frightened that he ultimately fled. The monster, not having any moral sense, does kill people, especially those close to Victor with almost like a childish response. The monster's very existence and the choices it makes are consequences of Victor's naive desire...
I listened to the audio play for the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. This was a very pleasant experience because the humor was very enjoyable, the story was fun, and the characters were fun. Arthur Dent is the protagonist, a human from Earth, finds himself traveling around in space with Ford Prefect, a being from the planet Betelguese. They hitch a ride on a ship of Vogons who had destroyed Earth to make way for a bypass, although supposedly this was the ultimate work of mice testing a theory. Arthur Dent is quite adaptable, although his character at first seems like that of Bilbo from The Hobbit, drawn in to an adventure that he almost had no say in the matter of joining, or little say. Trillian and Zaphod are the rescuers of the two companions, although the rescue happened by chance due to the drive in the ship. Trillian is a specialist of some kind who Arthur had met once before on Earth. There are many more intriguing characters, but one of the most intriguing characters for...
